The Look or Design
The Pixma MX870 has a slick and modern look to it. Most printers on the market fall into the same rectangular shape. The top of the printer has all the buttons and controls for your easy navigation, plus an LCD display .
Dimensions
Weighing in at 26.1 pounds this 19.4”x17.1”x8.9” printer will sit well on a desktop, shelf or table.
The real beauty of this machine is that it is wireless. That means you are not limited to having your Canon Pixma right next to your computer. And if your computer area has other machines, and a PC you don’t have to worry about being inundated with clutter. And if you have a massive tangle of wires from your other machines this is one less wire to add to the mix.
Ease of Use
Welcome to the world of ease. User friendly we like. Easy to use big buttons and a 2.5 “ LCD display screen to view the menu. Here you have all the controls you need. You can view your documents and files, edit and print them without even needing a PC. How great is that?
You will find slots for memory cards and there are removable storage device ports. This gives you ease of file reading and there are options for saving your data and images you want to print. Once again, without a PC.
This amazing machine can make copies on both sides without you having to turn the paper over. All automated.
What Kind of Printing
Fast as the speed of lightening, well not exactly but at about 39 seconds your inkjet printer will produce a clear 4×6 borderless photo. Resolution rocks with dpi of 600×600 for black ink, and 9600×2400 dpi for colored images. This is excellent stats.
More Functions
If these features weren’t already enough you get the ability to copy, fax and scan. And you can use this printer for home or office. The Pixma 870’s features which are great for the office is the ability to connect to the World Wide Web through Ethernet, USB or even Wi-Fi.
Scan
3 Different inputs for the scanner. ADF, optical and interpolated scanning. Super resolution again. The optical scan has amazing ability to create images of 2400×4800 dpi resolution
Adf comes in at 600×600 and hold on as the dpi can go up to about 19,200×19,200 with the interpolated images. The flatbed has a maximum ability to read a 8.5 x11.7 document but
the ADF can scan 8.5×14 (legal size papers)
Speed of reproduction on the copier is 4.3 inches per minute. Up to 400% enlargement available and you can reduce documents to 25%. It also has the ability to make 4 on a page or 2 on a page which I have made lots of use of, up to 99 copies at once, zoom, borderless, fit to page setting and more.
Fax
Black documents take about 3 seconds per page and 1 minute for a colored document to transmit. Its memory can save about 250 pages, you can speed dial for up to about 100 numbers. You get group dialing, redial , one touch speed-dialing, the ability to hook up an answering machine and remote reception.

This machine can save up to about 25% energy. The automatic double sided printing is great for saving paper. We waste so much paper in everyday use , so this is really a great feature.Unlike other machines that need the color cartridge replaced when one color gets really low, this machine has individual compartments for each color. All you have to do is replace the specific color you need.
